ImOn Communications Upgrades Cedar Rapids Area Hybrid Network to 100% Fiber-to-the-Home Internet

ImOn Communications is completing the transformation of its Cedar Rapids-area network to 100% fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) Internet. The upgrade replaces ImOn’s remaining hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) infrastructure and delivers multi-gig fiber speeds—up to 5 Gbps—to its hometown community for the first time, cementing ImOn’s position as the region’s fiber leader.
ImOn has already deployed fiber-to-the-home Internet across most of the Cedar Rapids metro. This final phase ensures every remaining neighborhood in Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha has access to true fiber-to-the-home Internet by replacing the final stretch of coaxial cable with fiber optic technology. Once complete, this will be Cedar Rapids’ only widely available 100% fiber-to-the-home Internet network.
Fiber To Bring Service Upgrades
Homes served by the upgraded network will have access to 2 Gbps and 5 Gbps Internet speeds, making it the fastest residential Internet available in the area and providing the capacity required for today’s data-intensive households and businesses.
“Our competitors offer hybrid networks, and that isn’t enough to meet the demands of modern households,” said ImOn President and CEO Patrice Carroll. “As homes rely on more connected devices, cloud services, and streaming services, fiber is the only technology that delivers the necessary speed and reliability. ImOn’s network upgrade completes our evolution to a fully fiber-based provider and ensures Cedar Rapids-area residents have access to the best Internet available—now and into the future.”
“Reliable, high-speed Internet is essential infrastructure,” said Cedar Rapids City Manager Jeff Pomeranz. “We appreciate ImOn’s investment and continued confidence in their home Cedar Rapids market. Reliable connectivity supports our residents and businesses, strengthening our community’s long-term economic growth while keeping Cedar Rapids competitive and connected.”
Construction began in June 2025 and will continue through 2026.
When construction is complete, ImOn will operate as a 100% fiber Internet service provider across its entire network footprint, joining its existing fiber markets in the Cedar Rapids metro, Iowa City metro, Dubuque metro, Sioux City metro (Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota), Clinton metro, Marshalltown, and many rural communities across Southeast Iowa.
