Since 2018, the Community Broadband Action Network (CBAN) has helped communities serving over a million people work towards broadband independence. From locally controlled broadband networks to ensuring every person has the tools, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed in the modern world, CBAN and its members are dedicated to better broadband for all.

OUR PRIORITIES

DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT FOR ALL

Our NDIA-sponsored Digital Navigator program serving southern Iowa is growing, and in 2024 we continued to serve our members with digital equity support that empowers communities, organizations, and advocates in their endeavors to create equitable and resilient local broadband ecosystems. We will do this by providing hands-on support and guidance in the areas where our work will have the greatest impact.

BUILDING BROADBAND BRIDGES

CBAN is not a think tank: we are a powerful "do tank," helping communities clear the hurdles that stand in the way of realizing the dream of better broadband access, adoption, and affordability for everyone in America. As BEAD and other funding is deployed, we will support our members and others as they navigate the process of executing their plans.

SERVING OUR MEMBERS

We do everything in our power to meaningfully engage and serve our members. In addition to those we served directly, 2023 saw exponential growth in event attendance with a new virtual option. Our Broadband Action newsletter subscribers nearly doubled in numbers and engagement, and our Broadband Action podcast is enjoying rapid growth.

COMMUNITY MEMBER

Fort Morgan, CO

"Fort Morgan has benefited from CBAN membership, from the weekly email newsletters and podcasts to the assistance (they) provided when we were evaluating our options for bringing fiber to the community. I would encourage any communities that care about broadband access and equity to join CBAN."

PROVIDER MEMBER

Fort Dodge, IA

"When Fort Dodge had the opportunity to undertake a community-transforming fiber broadband initiative, we made the right choice by working with CBAN. From initial community surveys through standing up and operating a best-practices fiber utility and everything in between, the expertise of the CBAN team has been invaluable, and helped us to keep moving forward, even in the face of big challenges along the way. Allo Fiber

ALLO Fiber appreciates the work of Curtis Dean and CBAN. As we continue to build ubiquitous fiber networks for business and residential customers, we believe it is also important to close the digital divide. CBAN provides education, guidance, and advocacy for their members to be able to serve communities with better broadband access. We look forward to the weekly newsletter which contains valuable insight into our industry.

Digital Equity For All in Southern Iowa

Our Digital Navigator program, led by Allison Ruhl, works across southern Iowa to bridge the digital divide by providing community members access to appropriate devices and essential digital skills. Through collaborative events with libraries, providers, schools, and other community partners, we provide one-on-one sessions and group classes, and distributed devices to help individuals work towards their digital goals.
